Abhinav Bindra - Indian Olympic Gold Medalist

Congratulations Abhinav Bindra.Thanks Rohit Brijnath.

Here's another reason why Rohit Brijnath will always be my favorite Sports columnist. Rohit Brijnath was the first one to say (article published last year) that Ahbinav Bindra, the shooter was the best bet for an Indian Olymic Gold in Beijing.

Be still please, he’s our biggest hope in Beijing.

Don’t look now, but this 24-year-old who looks like a cover boy for an accountancy magazine, who pursues a sport where stillness is a virtue and muscles can get in the way, whose rare moment of recognition came from, get this, a Thai airlines purser (“Hey, you’re the shooter’’), is possibly India’s best chance of a medal at the 2008 Beijing Olympics.
But don’t be fooled by the way Abhinav Bindra looks, not even for a millisecond, which is all it takes for him to send an air rifle bullet, from 33-odd feet, into a bullseye that’s about the size of your shirt button. Feel free to applaud.

In a related note, Lakshmi Mittal's trust is assisting Indian sports persons from less affluent background.

Regarding Bindra's Beijing triumph, "I am absolutely delighted," says Mittal, whose Mittal Champions Trust got Bindra a physical therapist, a mental trainer, and on that day when the bullets ran out, cartridges to practice with. "This is a great day for Indian sports." Mittal's trust is administered by his son-in-law, Amit Bhatia, and this year it supported 14 Indian athletes at the Olympics.
